Once the summer season ends, it’s time to put your bikinis and swimsuits away until the following year. And while it may seem like a small gesture, how you store them during the winter can make all the difference, between having them last for just one season or for many summers to come.
At Roidal, we understand that a quality women’s bikini is not just a swimsuit: it’s a designer garment, made with premium technical fabrics, designed to flatter your silhouette and accompany you in the most special moments of summer. That’s why proper care and storage of your bikini or women’s swimsuit is essential to preserve its features and extend its lifespan.
In this article, we’ll explain how to store your bikini for the winter, step by step, and share our top tips so it looks as good as new when you bring it back out.
Why Is It Important to Care for Your Bikini or Swimsuit During Winter?
Bikinis and swimsuits are made from delicate fibers that, although resistant to saltwater or chlorine, can become damaged if not stored correctly:
- The elastic may lose its recovery strength.
- Colors may fade due to humidity or light exposure.
- The shape can become distorted if folded improperly or stored under weight.
At Roidal, we work with high-quality European fabrics chosen for their resistance and softness, but we also recommend mindful and respectful care to ensure your swimwear remains in perfect condition.
That’s why in another article we already talked about how to store your bikinis to prevent damage.
5 Steps to Properly Store Your Bikini or Swimsuit in Winter
1. Wash It in Cold Water by Hand
Before storing it, make sure your bikini is thoroughly clean. Wash it by hand in cold water using a mild soap, avoiding fabric softeners or harsh detergents. Rinse well to remove all traces of chlorine, salt, or sunscreen.
At Roidal, we recommend not using a washing machine or dryer in order to preserve the garment’s shape and original color.
2. Let It Air Dry Completely, Out of Direct Sunlight
Never dry your swimsuit in direct sunlight, as this may cause fading. Lay it flat on a towel or hang it up, but avoid clothespins that might stretch or mark the fabric. Make sure it’s completely dry before storing it to prevent mold or mildew.
3. Don’t Fold or Roll It Tightly
Avoid folding or rolling the swimsuit too tightly. The best way to store it is to lay it flat or fold it gently, placing it between tissue paper or in breathable fabric pouches.
Some Roidal clients use individual cotton pouches to store each bikini or swimsuit without altering its shape.
4. Store It in a Cool, Dry Place Without Direct Light
Choose a closed drawer, closet, or box that protects your swimwear from sunlight and moisture. Avoid airtight plastic bags, as they do not allow the fabric to breathe.
5. Avoid Stacking Heavy Items on Top
Treat your swimwear for what it is: a delicate garment. Do not store it under heavier clothes that might flatten or distort it. With the right care, your swimsuit can look like new summer after summer.
